How to Replace the Oxygen Sensor in a Buick Rendezvous

Trying to replace the oxygen (O2) sensor in your Buick Rendezvous is not a difficult task, as long as you approach the job with the correct strategy. Oxygen sensors work mounted on the exhaust system,XPROG-M V5.70 under high temperatures. This causes them to tend to almost weld to the pipe or manifold, which can turn an inexpensive replacement into an expensive repair. Still, this is a job you can accomplish with a few simple tools and a few minutes in your own driveway.

Removing the Oxygen Sensor

Drive your Rendezvous for 20 minutes on the highway, to bring the engine up to operating temperature. Drive home, and park on level ground. Raising the exhaust system temperature will make it easier to unthread the oxygen sensor.

Open the hood, and locate the primary oxygen sensor, mounted on the exhaust manifold, near the front exhaust pipe that connects to the manifold. Locate the secondary oxygen sensor,Digimaster 3 at the rear of the catalytic converter. The converter is the rectangular metal box, between the front and rear exhaust pipes.

Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield with a ratchet, short ratchet extension and socket, if you have a 3.5-liter engine model.

Raise the front of your vehicle with a floor jack, and support it on two safety stands, if you need better access to the O2 sensor on your particular Buick model. Apply the parking brakes, and install a chock against each of the rear wheels, to keep the vehicle from rolling.

Put on your goggles; get under the vehicle, and unplug the oxygen sensor electrical connector. Detach the sensor electrical connector, by hand, from the clip that secures the connector away from the exhaust pipe, if you have the 3.5-liter engine model.

Unfasten, and remove, the sensor, with an oxygen sensor socket and a ratchet.

Installing the New Oxygen Sensor

Coat the threads of the new sensor with anti-seize compounds, but do not get any compound on the tip of the sensor.

Thread the new sensor, finger tight, and tighten the sensor to 30 ft-lbs. (41 Nm), with a torque wrench and the oxygen sensor socket.

Plug in the sensor electrical connector.

Attach the sensor electrical connector, by hand, to the clip, to secure it away from the exhaust pipe, if you have the 3.5-liter engine model.

Lower your Rendezvous off the safety stands,Launch X431 and remove the chocks from the rear wheels.

Tips & Warnings

Although it is a common tool, not many drivers own a torque wrench. However, many auto parts stores have this and other special tools available to rent.

1994 Honda Accord Won't Go in Any Gear

The fact that your 1994 Honda Accord won't go into gear is not necessarily all bad news. Not being able to put the car into gear may not be due to a faulty transmission.Launch EasyDiag Plus 2.0 It may be due to hydraulic or electrical problems rather than the gears themselves. Rebuilding or replacing the entire transmission in your vehicle is a time consuming and costly procedure. Perform these simple checks before taking your Accord to a mechanic for what could be a costly repair.

Run the vehicle to operating temperature. Turn off the car and prop open the hood when the engine is hot to get an accurate reading of the transmission fluid level in the engine. The transmission will not operate properly without the correct amount of fluid because it uses it for hydraulic power and lubrication.

Check the transmission fluid level using the red handled dipstick in the engine compartment. Pull the dipstick out, wipe the fluid off the stick with a shop rag, reinsert the stick, pull it out again and read where the fluid ends on the scored markings. Fill the transmission with Honda-approved automatic transmission fluid if it reads low.

Peel back the carpet on the passenger side floor where the carpet meets the front of the vehicle. Locate the vehicle's electronic control unit, or ECU, behind the carpet. It is a black rectangular box with a wiring harness leading from it.

Undo the clip on the wiring harness and unseat the ECU from its bracket with your hands. The ECU is a computer that controls the operation of the engine and can be faulty. XTOOL HD900 It may be stuck in "Fail-Safe" mode which would not allow the vehicle to shift gears. Take the ECU to a professional to run a diagnostic.

Use a flathead screwdriver to unfasten the two circular clamps on the air intake arm. Remove the brackets and the air intake arm from the engine compartment. Look straight down where the intake arm was to locate the speed sensor on the back of the transaxle housing.

Use a 10-mm socket to remove the speed sensor and unfasten the wiring harness on the sensor with your fingers. The speed sensor is a small electronic plug with three wires coming from it. Install a new speed sensor by clipping the wiring harness into place and using a 10-mm socket to screw the sensor into its splined hole.

Install the air intake arm back into place and use a flathead screwdriver to secure the two air intake arm brackets. OBDSTAR X300M The speed sensor sends electronic information to the ECU so the transmission may operate. If no information is sent, then the transmission will fail to operate.

Tow the vehicle to a mechanic. If the steps above do not fix the problem then the gears inside the transmission are compromised and must be rebuilt or replaced by a professional.

How to Read a Car Computer

United States law requires that all vehicles of model year 1996 and newer sold in the U.S. be OBD-II-compliant. OBD stands for On-Board Diagnostic;Autocom cdp+ these vehicles all have a data link connector providing a way to access the on-board diagnostic computer system. The car's computer provides valuable diagnostic information regarding many problems the car might experience. Any time the computer detects an issue, it logs all of the sensor readings at the time of detection. This data provides useful information for evaluating the vehicle's performance.

How to Increase HP on a 996

The 996 is the model number for all Porsches built between 1998 and 2005. Increasing the horse power (HP) on this German sports car can be accomplished in a number of ways.VXDIAG VCX NANO The Porsche 996 came with two engine options the 3.4 liter H6 and the 3.6 liter H6. It is a rear engine car with rear or all wheel drive. The fastest model 996 (the GT2) came with 489 horse power.

Replace the intake, headers and exhaust. The three aforementioned components constitute the air flow system in the vehicle. Air flow (both in and out,) more specifically unrestricted air flow, are at the heart of engine performance. There are many after-market company's that specialize in Porsche performance parts and the first thing a driver should do to increase power is replace the intake, headers and exhaust with performance ones.MB SD Connect Compact 4 This will help the engine receive more air in and help it expel the air more efficiently. The result is increased horsepower.

Adjust the computer or ECM (Engine Control Unit/Module, sometimes called ECU) on the 996. The on board computer controls a number of different functions for the car. The default settings are setup for the daily drive and not tuned for maximum performance (which will decrease fuel efficiency.) Purchase a 996 ECM control unit. This will plug into the 996's ECM and the driver can tune the car to the optimal settings for maximum horse power.

Add a turbo. The base model 996s do not come with a turbocharger.MB SD Connect Compact 5 Obviously the 911 Turbo does. Still the base 996s can easily accommodate a turbo. A turbocharger is a form of a supercharger. It increases the amount of air pressure entering the engine; which results in more power. Turbos can be expensive but they can dramatically increase the amount of horse power the car generates.
